As we look to the future, we are seeking a motivated and capable Strategic Planning Officer to support the development and implementation of strategic land use and planning frameworks that guide our growth.
About the Role
As the Strategic Planning Officer, you will work closely with the City Planning team to develop and review local planning strategies, schemes, and policies. You'll play a key role in aligning our planning framework with state planning policy and community priorities, while also helping to ensure our growth is balanced, sustainable, and forward-thinking.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, monitoring and review of strategic, corporate, organisational, technical and statutory documents of the Local Planning Policy Framework
- Undertake research into matters relating to sustainable land use planning and development at regional, local and site specific levels.
- Contribute to strategic projects such as townsite expansion, infill development, and heritage planning.
- Provide professional planning advice to internal departments, Council, and community stakeholders.
- Engage with State Government agencies, developers, and the public on planning matters.
- Support the preparation of Council reports, planning assessments, and submissions.
- Monitor legislative and policy changes and provide recommendations to align with current best practices.
About You
We're looking for a planning professional with a strong understanding of the Western Australian planning system, including the Planning and Development Act 2005, State Planning Policies, and relevant regulations.
To be successful, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of WA's statutory and strategic planning frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong research, analytical, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
