Your Role
As the Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer - Wardandi, you will play a key role in strengthening relationships between the City and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to enhance cultural safety, inclusivity, and community engagement.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate opportunities to embrace and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture across the City's service delivery.
- Support and advocate for the Noongar Arts Program, ensuring its integration into City activities.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of events such as
- Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week.
- Facilitate partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses and organisations.
- Support the implementation of cultural awareness training for City employees.
- Provide advice on cultural safety and inclusivity within the organisation.
- Assist in the development of strategies, policies, and initiatives aligned with the City's Strategic Community Plan 2032.
What We're Looking For
- Lived experience as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, with strong cultural knowledge, identity, and community connections.
- A deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, gained through personal, community, or professional experience.
- Experience in community leadership, advocacy, cultural education, or engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Experience or demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with Traditional Owners, Elders, advisory groups, and diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to develop and deliver culturally safe programs and events.
Strong communication, relationship-building, and project coordination skills. - A commitment to ongoing learning and cultural strengthening, both personally and within the organisation.
- Current National Police Certificate (or willingness to obtain one). Support will be provided as needed.
